Nate the Great Saves the King of Sweden
by Marjorie Sharmat

****
Nate the Great was a detective. He solves easy and hard cases. Rosamond lost something special in Sweden. She wanted Nate the Great to solve her mystery. You'd love to read it because it's cool and "superduper" and funny and exciting. It's sort of a chapter book. The beginning, the middle and the end are perfect. The pictures are important to solve the mystery.

To Market, To Market
by Anne Miranda
Illustrated by Jane Stevens

****

It happened in the grocery store and in the lady's house. The lady, a pig, a lamb and other animals were in the story. We liked the story. We liked the story because many words were rhyming words. We laughed at all the illustrations. We liked the real black and white pictures.

Mr. Popper's Penguins
by Richard and Florence Atwater

****

How would you like to read a book about penguins that live with a family in a house? If this seems interesting, get ready to read Mr. Popper's Penguins. As you can tell, this story will be fiction.

This book is a chapter book with 139 pages. The authors are Richard and Florence Atwater. Our class thinks both boys and girls in grades two through five will enjoy reading about a King penguin that comes to the United States all the way from Antarctica. The Popper family first raises one penguin, then a female penguin arrives from Antarctica. After a while Captain Cook and Greta have baby penguins. They now have more mouths to feed so the Poppers turn their penguins into an act. The fun begins when the curtain goes up on Popper's Performing Penguins.

The book does not have a lot of pictures but the ones that they do have are black and white. This is because the book was printed in 1938. Get ready to rumble with Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Harry and the Terrible Whatzit
by Dick Gackenbach

***

Harry and the Terrible Whatzit was a funny book. It was about a little boy who is scared of a basement monster. I didn't like the illustrator because he only used 3 colors: black, white, and red. This book helps kids conquer their fear of monsters. When Harry stops believing in he two-headed monster, the monster shrinks to the size of a penny and goes away. I feel this book is for children under the age of five. It was a real thriller.

Harold and the Purple Crayon
by Crockett Johnson

****

Harold and the Purple Crayon is a one-of-a-kind book. Harold goes on an adventure drawing what he needs with his purple crayon. For example, he sails across the sea, climbs a mountain, and goes for a walk in the moonlight. After his adventures, he decides to get in bed, draw up the cover, and go to sleep. I feel that everyone every age should read this book. It's very creative.

Kitten for a Day
by Ezra Jack Keats ****

Kitten for a day is my favorite book, because I like kittens and I think the book is fun. The pictures are excellent, because they show kittens, and everything the book is talking about. The book has a good cover because it has furry, cute kittens. The characters in the book are the kittens, puppy, and the mother dog. The story takes place inside the house, and the book is about the dogs and cats are having fun. Another favorite book of mine is Oliver and Amanda pig. Moon Lake
Ivan Gantschev ****

Moon Lake by Ivan Gantschev was rated a four star. Moon Lake was about a shepherd who was the only one who knew about this mysterious lake. However the old shepherd had died and the secret was lost forever. However a boy named Peter recaptures the beauty of the secret lake and the secret is revealed once again. The lake is shaped as a moon that shines in the moonlight, the lake is bordered with beautiful stones. Creative pictures and dark colors against lights makes it look like an inviting book. Some characters mentioned in the book include a boy named Peter and a old Shepherd. This story takes place in the countryside hills. I was right! It looked like a good book and it was. I would recommend this book to a friend because it was mysterious. I don’t want to tell you everything , you have to read it for yourself.

GOOSE
by Molly Bang * * * *

The book Goose is a very good book ( 4 stars) . Molly Bang is the author. It is a book about a chick and his egg fell out of his nest and rolled away. Then it went down a woodchucks hole and hatched into a tiny chick. The woodchucks taught him to be a woodchuck and taught him to swim. He was sad because he wasn’t like any of them. His friends and family tried to make him happy, but it didn’t work. So he left them but things only got worse! But then he didn’t watch were he was going and then he fell off a cliff and discovered he could fly! At the end he even gave a woodchuck a ride in the sky! I like it because of it’s pictures and because it’s my birthday book!!
